About The Role

Antora is seeking a self-driven and passionate Plant Technician I to join our plant team and help deliver zero-carbon industrial heat and power with Antora’s thermal battery technology. In this role, you will support the outside operations of our thermal energy storage and boiler systems while helping maintain plant systems during installation, commissioning, and operations.

The Plant Technician I will work closely with internal engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to safely construct, commission, and operate first-of-a-kind industrial installations of the Antora thermal battery. This is a hands-on role for someone who is energized by learning in the field, takes pride in safe and reliable plant operations, and wants to contribute directly to the demonstration of a breakthrough long-duration energy storage technology.

What You'll Do


  • Support the safe operation of thermal energy storage, boiler, and balance-of-plant systems during installation, commissioning, and routine operations
  • Perform daily rounds and inspections, identify off-normal conditions, and communicate findings clearly to the lead operator and broader team
  • Execute standardized operational and maintenance tasks requiring foundational knowledge of plant systems, including boilers, generators, control systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities assigned through the plant CMMS program
  • Help identify issues across plant systems and escalate them to the appropriate team members for resolution
  • Support safe work practices by helping verify compliance with Lockout/Tagout, hot work permits, job hazard analyses, confined space entry requirements, and related operational and outage procedures
  • Assist with plant startups, shutdowns, system checks, and emergency response activities in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Support inventory management, warehouse organization, and material handling activities
  • Perform hands-on testing such as oil and water chemistry sampling and analysis, while supporting more experienced plant and maintenance technicians across a range of plant activities
  • Follow and help improve standard operating procedures and plant best practices that strengthen operational consistency, safety, and reliability
  • Maintain a high standard for safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory and site requirements
What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma, technical or vocational training, or equivalent military experience required
  • 1+ years of experience in field operations, industrial environments, or laboratory settings involving control systems such as DCS, SCADA, or PLCs
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations, with an understanding of environments involving hazardous energy, chemicals, and waste materials, including proper handling and storage practices
  • Ability to perform routine inspections, system startups and shutdowns, and emergency response procedures
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn from experienced operators and technicians
  • Comfortable working under direct supervision while independently managing assigned tasks and priorities
  • Collaborative, humble, and mission-driven mindset with a strong focus on safety and reliability
Required Skills & Experience

  • Foundational knowledge of plant operations and industrial equipment, including boilers, steam generators, control systems, and balance-of-plant equipment
  • Practical familiarity with SCADA or similar plant operating systems
  • Skilled in the use of test equipment and calibration tools, with hands-on experience in machinery repair and control system diagnostics
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and operational support tasks in a structured plant environment
  • Strong attention to detail in identifying, documenting, and communicating plant issues
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
  • Experience supporting safe work permitting and operational compliance processes
  • Basic understanding of energy storage or thermal process systems, including steam, boilers, and auxiliary plant systems


Bonus Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
  • Experience with process engineering systems such as combined heat and power plants, boilers, steam generators, or high-temperature fluid loops
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA
  • Experience with medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems
  • Solid foundational understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics
  • Experience with boiler operations, steam systems, and water chemistry

Please note: This role will have 24/7 shift work, nights, weekends expected. Day and night shift swap over. Work may be outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions

Work Location: Onsite in Big Stone City, South Dakota

Salary Range: $27/hourly USD

Salary Basis: Hourly + possible OT

The actual salary offered will be within the posted range and determined based on several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experiences, credentials and expertise, as they pertain to the position's requirements.
