Boston Metal is commercializing a cutting-edge extractive metallurgy technology to revolutionize primary metals production by improving metal quality while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This fast-paced startup company is expanding its Operations team to help develop and run its Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) cells to produce molten metal.

Working closely with the Facilities Manager and Office Manager the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and efficient operation of the buildings’ infrastructures and systems. This role involves routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs to ensure the facilities remains in optimal condition and meets all safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance tasks with third party vendors to avoid building equipment failures and extend the lifespan of assets.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and coordinate to repair or replace equipment
  • Replace or repair faulty building equipment, fixtures, and other building components as necessary.
  • Respond to and resolve maintenance requests and issues from building occupants.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain safety equipment such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
  • Document and report any safety hazards or compliance issues.
  • Address urgent maintenance issues including power outages, water leaks, and system failures.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Manager and Office Manager to manage external contractors or vendors for specialized repair services as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inspections.
  • Track inventory levels of maintenance supplies and tools, and reorder as needed.
  • Interact professionally with building occupants to address maintenance requests and provide updates on the status of repairs.
  • Ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some vocational training or experience preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related role.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance including painting and light carpentry. Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.

Required Skills:

  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and building occupants.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in conducting inspections and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Self Starter with a positive attitude who takes initiative with little to no supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in various conditions, including confined spaces and elevated heights.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency situations outside of regular working hours as needed.

You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
