Purpose Driven Position

We are seeking a Manager of Controls, Electromechanical Assembly, and Quality Testing to lead our skilled technical team in the production and refinement of high-quality control enclosures and valve boxes that support our innovative technology. You will oversee the entire process, including assembly, PLC/I/O integration, calibration, functional testing, and ensuring products are ready for shipment. Your focus will be on maintaining precision, inventory accuracy, and fostering continuous improvement. This role offers a hands-on experience in a low-volume, highly technical environment where quality is essential, and your leadership will have a direct impact on our operations.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead daily build and test operations for control and valve boxes, delivering on time with first-pass quality.
  • Own assembly SOPs, functional test procedures, calibration routines, and release criteria for PLCs, I/O, power supplies, breakers, relays, solenoids, and sensors.
  • Establish clear standards of work, work instructions, travelers, and checklists for electrical assembly, wiring verification, continuity and insulation checks, and leak checks.
  • Conduct technical troubleshooting on valves, PLC bits, voltage/current settings, and sensors to ensure precise calibration and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee mechanical assembly and review for valve boxes and enclosures, including panel hardware, mounting, correct fitting placement, maintaining correct torque settings, measuring valve tolerances, etc.
  • Assist R&D Engineer with developing and maintaining wiring diagrams, simple mechanical drawings/fixtures, and panel layouts.
  • Coordinate and schedule packing/shipping-related activities and support the Logistics Manager to ensure the timely shipment of systems and components.
  • Manage nonconformances, root cause, corrective and preventive actions, and change control with a focus on design-for-assembly and design-for-service.
  • Plan and maintain inventory levels using visible mechanisms (min-max or kanban); drive monthly cycle counts and inventory accuracy (Cost Variances and Average count variances).
  • Manage system refurbishment processes to maximize value recovery from returned systems.
  • Coordinate internal work and external partners for panel fabrication, labeling, machining, and outsourced assembly.
  • Maintain data integrity in Smartsheets, Salesforce CRM, and other tools; ensure serial numbers and as-built records are complete at release.
  • Own safe shop operations (LOTO practices, ESD handling where applicable, PPE compliance) and partner with JOHS Committee on risk assessments and corrective actions.
  • Support Hardware Specialists, R&D Engineer and CarbonCure team members with delivery statuses, calibration certificates, and general inquiries.
  • Create, modify, track and improve strategic department KPIs.
  • Host occasional tours or technical demos for visitors, as needed.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Diploma or degree in electrical, instrumentation, controls, or industrial engineering/technology, mechanical engineering or equivalent hands-on experience. Engineers from other disciplines with hands-on controls engineering experience or specialised valve operation experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering/industrial automation/mechanical engineering or chemical engineering applications/engineering management.
  • Hands-on proficiency in reading electrical schematics and piping diagrams; able to trace circuits with a multimeter and safely energize and commission panels.
  • Experience commissioning PLC/I/O at a practical level: downloading configurations, verifying I/O, troubleshooting wiring and sensors, and documenting results.
  • Ability to create and manage work instructions, functional test procedures, and calibration routines with disciplined document control.
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience, including daily prioritization, coaching, and performance feedback in a shop/ warehouse environment.
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset and a strong interest in identifying and promoting efficiency improvements.
  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to read mechanical drawings, assemble tubing and fittings, apply correct torque, and understand sealing principles.
  • Fluency with BOM management, part revisions, serial number tracking, and basic ERP/MRP transactions.
  • Strong organization and communication skills; comfortable with a high-mix workload and tight ship dates.

Assets

  • Previous exposure to CO₂ or cryogenic applications.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 practices in production environments; experience leading Nonconformances, Corrective and Preventative Actions, and internal audits.
  • Lean and Six Sigma tools such as 5S, value stream mapping, standard work, visual management, and basic SPC (Statistical Process Control); Green Belt or willingness to earn it in the first year.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Smartsheets and Atlassian tools.

Work Environment

  • This is a permanent, full-time position at our Headquarters in Dartmouth, NS.
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment, with regular standing and moderate lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel (less than 5%) to the occasional supplier or customer site visit.
