Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. The Employee Relations Specialist/Partner will provide strategic support and guidance for employee relations concerns and investigations. They will work closely with the HR Business Partners to provide guidance, support and make recommendations to resolve employee relations concerns, and operate with confidentiality while conducting any investigations. Additionally, this role will be responsible for engaging in accommodation requests as well as processing changes in the HRIS.

This team member will:

  • Conduct investigations in response to a range of employee relations concerns, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, workplace violence, and other violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Communicate regularly regarding pending investigations and provide timely investigation reports with supporting documentation for all completed investigations
  • Use effective interviewing and documentation techniques
  • Partner with Legal and HR teams in conducting investigations to provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace concerns
  • Create and update HR policies and procedures that pertain to employee relations
  • Analyze employee relations trends and help develop proactive strategies, solutions, programs and policies
  • Develop effective relationships with HR Business Partners to promote positive employee relations throughout the organization to ensure a high level of employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Maintain confidentiality of any upcoming, ongoing or closed investigations or employee relations matters
  • Work closely with HR Business Partners to process and engage in any necessary actions as it pertains to employee relations matters
  • Actively engage with employees in the accommodation process when requests are made
  • Process change tickets in UKG, our HRIS

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • 5+ years of HR experience with a focus in workplace investigations and employee relations
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, which govern employment policies and practices, with preference for application in Massachusetts and California
  • Thorough understanding and application of internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices and standards
  • Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, including remote areas
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

  • Knowledge of UKG
  • Ability to perform activities such as sitting and typing for extending periods of time
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
