We are looking for a talented Vice President to work on our Perovskite R&D Team. The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Manage Boston & Dallas Perovskite R&D teams.
  • Expert knowledge in Perovskite Solar Cell technology.

Previous hands on experience with the following:

  • Synthesize both novel and common materials for perovskite solar cell development and manufacturing.
  • Develop synthesis procedures and quality control checks as well as characterize and stabilize a range of chemical systems for the production of perovskite solar cells including: inks, (nano)crystals, precursors, solvent systems, and oxide semiconductors.
  • Scale up procedures and syntheses from lab-scale to manufacturing scale.
  • Exhibit a high regard for the importance of safety and cleanliness both in their workspace and products.
  • Train team members to use processes the chemist developed, point out any potential for danger during these processes, and work with the safety coordinator to mitigate any perceived dangers.
  • Alter material properties to improve solar cell performance metrics and durability based on feedback from the CTO and other technical team members. The materials development will provide feedback in a cycle of fabrication and characterization that pushes the boundaries of what is commercially possible.

The Senior Scientist will be part of an elite team of R&D scientists and device engineers, and will have ample opportunity to work closely with other subject and process experts, as well as a larger team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers. Internal collaboration as well as with external parties and equipment vendors is an essential element of the job.

This position will have the opportunity to interface with virtually all facets of the business, from research to process development to manufacturing and quality control, and your efforts will be visible to the entire company, ranging from technicians to executive management.

The Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field; MS with 5+ years of relevant work experience, including leading teams.
  • Has mastered one or multiple fields of chemistry: organic, inorganic, analytical and physical.
  • Competence in material characterization and analysis methods: NMR, XRD, UV-Vis-NIR, FTIR, PL, ICP-MS, XPS, etc.
  • Competence in the use and maintenance for most of these core tools: gloveboxes, fume hoods, electrochemical cells, Schlenk lines, vacuum systems, annealing furnaces, X-ray diffractometers, spectrometers, and spectrophotometers.
  • Experience with photovoltaics especially perovskites is a significant advantage. Device fabrication experience preferred but not required.
  • Respond to fabrication, characterization, modeling, and analysis needs within a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Ability to perform data processing in timely fashion and disseminate results in oral and written formats.
  • A demonstrated ability to solve problems using multidisciplinary and hands-on approaches.
  • Proven track record of working closely with third parties like equipment vendors and/or research institutes.
  • Eager to work in a collaborative lab environment and translate your ideas into results.
  • Hands-on experience with one or multiple of the following techniques is a plus: nanocrystal synthesis, ALD or sputtering, electrochemical methods, thin film fabrication (such as spin coating, blade coating, or slot-die coating).
