Description
The Senior Payroll Analyst will administer Fervo payroll and support the compensation program and the implementation of HR systems. This role will play a key part on the People Operations team, which offers practical advice, innovative tools, and solutions to advance our company’s mission and support our employees’ experience, development, and well-being. This Senior Payroll Analyst reports to the Director of People Operations.
Responsibilities
- Own the payroll process from start to finish, including processing payroll, ensuring accurate data entry, overseeing payroll-related tasks such as tax withholdings, benefits deductions, wage garnishments, and ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations
- Modify the Time & Labor module in our HRIS/payroll system to run payroll for a growing multi-state company which may become more complex in the future
- Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with local laws and company policies
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and support requests
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of payroll data and reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain data integrity in our HRIS, including process reports and employee data changes such as compensation, titles, leaves of absence, and department changes; regularly audit data to ensure accuracy
- Take responsibility of the registration for unemployment, workers compensation, and other taxes (as applicable) for new states and localities and set them up in the payroll system
- Assist in the preparation of year end W-2s or other related tax filings or reports
- Work closely with the Director of People Operations on compensation management, maintaining compensation data and complying with pay transparency laws
- Other People Operations tasks as assigned by the Director of People Operations
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or related field
- Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
- Requires 5+ years of payroll related experience or accounting experience
- Experience processing payroll through Paylocity preferred
- Experience implementing HR systems preferred
- Experience and proficiency with federal and state labor laws, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Pay Act, state wage and hour regulations, federal and state payroll tax code; California labor, employment, leave, and pay laws experience preferred
- Skilled in the use of payroll/compensation systems as well as productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel, and programs that aid in analysis and communication
- Must be a self-starter and able to accomplish expected tasks under minimal supervision; Ability to multi-task and maintain composure under pressure
- Collect, interpret, and analyze data and make sound recommendations
- Desire to grow professionally by taking on new challenges
- Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure
