Description

The Instrumentation & Control Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for next-generation geothermal power plant projects. This role will be accountable for the initial technical development and verification of projects scopes. In this position, technical expertise and leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our facilities. This role requires a self-starter who can take ownership of projects and provide technical guidance to junior team members. The Instrumentation and Control Engineer will report to the Senior Instrumentation & Control Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks, which may include sizing control valves, flow meters, and safety valves, developing data sheets, supporting technical bid analysis, developing cause and effect and control narratives, prepare Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), supporting the development equipment specifications, developing Instruments List and I/O List and Instruments Model preselection, and performing field work
  • PLC programming and SCADA development
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents
  • Develop Instrument Specifications and Data Sheets (process sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, positioners, discrete sensors, analytical instruments)
  • Design control schemes and panels for facilities
  • Specify Programmable Logic Controllers and/or Distributed Computer Control Systems hardware
  • Support client Hazard and Operability Analysis and Process Hazard Analysis evaluations
  • Support development of facilities standards that would benefit the entire organization
  • Collaborate with Information Technology Network and Cybersecurity Teams when necessary
  • Provide troubleshooting support for complex network related problems
  • Support generation and maintenance of system architecture design documentation
  • Assist field personnel in identifying and resolving Process Control, Control Network, and Instrumentation problems
  • Collaborate with Production and Facilities Departments to build tools to help streamline operations and remove manual data capture or process changes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • 5 years of experience in Instrumentation & Control Engineering or related role
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports
  • Knowledge and application of National Electrical Code (NEC), International Society of Automation (ISA) and other applicable industry codes and standards as they apply to control system specification and design
  • Understanding of various process equipment as vessels, tanks, heat exchangers & coolers, heaters, rotating equipment (pumps and compressors), packaged equipment, valves & specialty items
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Field experience preferred
  • Proficient working with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Inductive Automation’s Ignition
  • Good knowledge in developing and preparing:
    • Process flow diagrams, and assist Process/Mechanical Engineers; Piping and Instrument Diagrams, and assist Process/Mechanical Engineers; Support field process evaluations; Control narratives; Cause & Effect Charts; SAFE charts; Specification and design of SIS systems; Instrumentation studies – i.e. Choice of level, flow, and analytical elements/transmitters; Instrument Specifications and Data Sheets (Process sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, positioners, discrete sensors, analytical instruments); Calculate sizing for Control valves, Pressure Safety valves, Relief valves, and flow meters; Select proper materials for valves and instruments; Automation/Control System Architecture drawings; Specifying Programmable Logic Controllers and/or Distributed Computer Control Systems hardware; Support client Hazard Operability Analysis and Process Hazard Analysis evaluations; Support client purchasing cycle with specification and bid document development; Instrument list / PLC I/O List
