Chief of Staff
Fervo Energy
Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Delivering on this mission requires tight alignment between frontier subsurface science, power plant performance, and disciplined execution across the business. Joining Fervo’s Technology organization means operating at the center of innovation, where technical rigor, capital efficiency, and operational excellence directly shape company strategy and long-term value creation.
We are seeking a Chief of Staff to the Chief Technology Officer who is excited by Fervo’s mission and motivated to operate as a senior extension of the CTO. This role is ideal for a post-MBA or advanced technical degree holder who combines deep technical fluency with strong business judgment, and who thrives in high-ambiguity, high-impact environments at the intersection of engineering, strategy, and execution.
Description
The Chief of Staff to the CTO is a senior strategic leadership role designed to amplify the effectiveness, focus, and operating cadence of Fervo’s Technology organization. This is not an administrative or coordination-only role. Instead, it is a high-trust position responsible for driving execution on the CTO’s highest-priority initiatives, shaping how technical performance is translated into executive decision-making, and ensuring alignment across engineering, asset development, and corporate leadership.
Acting as a close partner to the CTO, the Chief of Staff helps set priorities, pressure-test assumptions, and ensure that complex technical work across subsurface, drilling, and power plant disciplines is converted into clear, actionable insights for the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and investors.
Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Organizational Execution
- Partner with the CTO to define, prioritize, and drive execution of strategic initiatives across Fervo’s technology roadmap and project development pipeline
- Lead strategic planning, goal-setting, and performance management across the Technology organization, including Reservoir Engineering, Exploration Geoscience, Data Acquisition & Advanced Analytics, and Land, Environment & Permitting
- Establish and maintain operating rhythms, OKRs, and accountability mechanisms to ensure delivery of technical milestones and cross-functional commitments
- Support Technology organization budgeting, resource allocation, and capacity planning in coordination with Finance and executive leadership
Executive Communications & Investor Support
- Synthesize complex subsurface, drilling, and power plant performance data into clear, executive-ready dashboards, memos, and presentations for the Executive Team and Board of Directors
- Serve as a technical and strategic translator between engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders, framing technical progress and risks in business-relevant terms
- Support investor and partner communications by developing technically rigorous narratives that articulate Fervo’s performance, differentiation, and scalability
- Prepare the CTO for Board meetings, investor discussions, and external engagements, including conference presentations and thought leadership opportunities
Technical Assessment, Analysis & Thought Leadership
- Lead development of technical white papers, case studies, and internal analyses that showcase Fervo’s enhanced geothermal system performance and field results
- Perform independent technical assessments and data analysis to validate assumptions, model inputs, and conclusions before information is elevated to executive or Board review
- Partner with engineering and analytics teams to ensure consistency, credibility, and integrity of executive-facing technical data
- Contribute to the evolution of technical standards, performance metrics, and analytical frameworks used to evaluate project and portfolio performance
Cross-Functional Integration & Special Projects
- Facilitate alignment between Technology, Asset Development, Finance, and other corporate teams to ensure technical decisions are integrated with project economics and execution plans
- Lead or support special projects at the direction of the CTO, including diligence efforts, strategic partnerships, and internal transformation initiatives
- Act as a trusted sounding board to the CTO on technical, organizational, and strategic decisions
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical) or Geosciences
- 3+ years of experience in the energy sector, management consulting, or a high-growth technology environment, with increasing responsibility
- Demonstrated ability to engage deeply with subsurface data, reservoir engineering concepts, drilling performance, and complex technical systems
- Strong analytical and data skills, including experience building executive-level dashboards, models, and performance analyses
- Proven ability to operate independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- MBA or advanced technical degree (MS or PhD)
- Prior experience working directly with executive leadership, Boards, or investors
- Background in geothermal, oil & gas, or other capital-intensive energy technologies
