Role Description
This Controls Engineering role will be responsible for leading and supporting the initial operations production environment in all cell/battery assembly processes, from raw materials/chemicals to final product, while ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety. This position requires a strong background in controls engineering within an industrial manufacturing operation with an excellent internal customer mindset of operational efficiency supporting various engineering and production teams.
This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA location (Greater Pittsburgh Area).

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of controls engineers and technicians supporting a new production environment, ensuring that they are meeting their targets and are aligned with company goals and objectives
  • Develop and implement equipment controls and data collection systems to optimize the battery production processes, reduce cost, improve quality, and increase efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve production issues, while maintaining product quality standards
  • Support root cause analysis as needed in conjunction with various other team members and develop corrective and preventive actions to improve processes, equipment, and systems
  • Engage in capital projects related to battery production equipment and systems, from conceptual design support and reviews to installation and commissioning, ensuring that they are delivered and installed into the operational environment
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies related to environmental, health, and safety
  • Support the implementation and usage of MES systems, as well as other tools related to manufacturing and sustainability
  • Responsible for designing control systems for new and existing equipment, including PLC programming, HMI development, and wiring and layout design.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement

What You'll Bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in controls engineering with a wide range of production equipment, ideally in a cell or battery module production environment or similar
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Computer Engineering or similar field, or extensive equivalent industrial experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining the overall SCADA of an operation
  • Extensive experience with PLC and HMI programming, as well as data acquisition and analysis / visualization tools
  • Proficiency in a variety of programming languages, such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagram
  • Proven experience managing projects, leading teams, and implementing controls engineering improvement activities
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop effective, data driven solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across a wide range of technical teams and departments to understand requirements and deliver solutions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where changes in design, processes, and equipment are often expected
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Extensive experience working with other engineering departments to improve the manufacturability of a products and processes (DFMA) from a data collection and equipment controls perspective
  • Experience providing data from process equipment for creating SPCs in a production environment
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously and within deadlines
  • Knowledgeable in computer networks with abilities to design and implement complex automated control systems that leverage these capabilities in an industrial setting
  • Experience with Vision systems and implementation for automated quality control data collection
  • Knowledge of cell/battery production processes, equipment, and systems a plus
  • Direct experience in processes and equipment such as powder handling/mixing, roll to roll processing, calendaring/lamination, and electrochemical testing a definite plus

The salary range for this role is $124,320 - $176,335. The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
