The Company

Our client is a leading energy-focused SaaS and analytics company helping power, renewables, utilities, traders, investors, and market participants make better decisions through data, forecasting, optimization, and software.

The company sits at the intersection of wholesale electricity markets, grid analytics, renewables, market intelligence, and product. Its platform helps customers understand how power is produced, delivered, priced, traded, and optimized across a rapidly changing energy landscape.

This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to apply advanced modeling and optimization to real-world power market problems, not build models in isolation.

The Role

The Principal Data Scientist will help lead the evolution of a next-generation market modeling platform for nodal electricity markets. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and customer-facing teams to translate complex market problems into scalable analytical models and commercial software capabilities.

This person will define the mathematical and analytical approaches behind new product capabilities, with a focus on fundamental power market modeling, optimization, forecasting, and simulation.

Key areas of ownership include:

  • Leading the design and evolution of large-scale power market models
  • Developing optimization, forecasting, and simulation methodologies for nodal electricity markets
  • Translating customer and market needs into scalable product capabilities
  • Partnering closely with software engineers to ensure models are production-ready
  • Guiding technical direction across multiple product initiatives
  • Mentoring other data scientists and market modelers
  • Staying current with evolving electricity markets, optimization methods, and forecasting approaches

About You

You are a senior data scientist, market modeler, optimization expert, or quantitative power markets professional with deep experience in wholesale electricity markets.

You likely bring:

  • Experience developing or applying models for nodal wholesale electricity markets
  • Strong understanding of market-clearing algorithms, SCUC, SCED, transmission constraints, and economic dispatch
  • Experience with MILP and large-scale optimization
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Comfort working across product, engineering, commercial, and customer-facing teams
  • Ability to translate complex market concepts into practical software products
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience with a Market Management System, AC/DC power flow modeling, ISO/RTO market software, power trading platforms, or commercial market simulation tools would be especially relevant.

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys combining electricity markets, mathematical modeling, software development, and product strategy.
