The Heirloom team is on a path to creating a sustainable, scalable, and economically viable carbon removal system.

This technology - which requires a unique blend of geology, chemistry, industrial engineering, and process engineering - doesn’t yet exist at the scales necessary to make a difference, so we need to build it ourselves.

The Mechanical Engineering Internship/Co-Op is available to students currently working towards a BS or MS in mechanical engineering or a related field.

This internship will give you serious real world experience working closely with senior mechanical, controls, and systems engineering staff, and enable you to make meaningful contributions to larger-scale projects. Using 3D tools, you will get hands-on to design, build, and test rapid proof of concept prototypes and testing systems for our novel enhanced weathering methodology to capture CO2 at massive scale in the billions of tons.

- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics)

- 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks

- Engineering testing methodology; ability to design experiments and collect data

- Self-starter, critical thinker, and problem-solving skills

- Team player with excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills

- Familiarity with formal engineering documentation (ANSI mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams)

- Hands-on fabrication experience: e.g. woodworking, machining, welding, etc.

- Mechatronics systems experience (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar with motion components)

- Familiarity with kinematic systems (e.g. gears, belts, leadscrews, linkages, etc.)
