The salary range for this position is $107-140K.
We are looking for an Experimental Physicist with experience in transforming complex atomic physics experiments into practical applications. As a member of the engineering and technology organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. You’ll be a technical contributor on the team responsible for commissioning and initial demonstration of our next-generation Barium quantum computers in our new Seattle facility.
Responsibilities:
- Build, commission, and test a next-generation Barium trapped ion quantum computer from the ground up
- Closely collaborate with the optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams in the validation of performance of critical sub-systems of a trapped-ion quantum computer
- Demonstrate the initial ion trapping and gate fidelity measurements in a new quantum computer
You’d be a good fit with:
- PhD in experimental physics or related field, with deep knowledge of atomic physics
- Experience designing, characterizing and operating complex trapped ion or neutral atom systems and experiments
- Demonstrated experimental experience with one or more of the following specialities: ultracold atomic physics, ion trapping, laser spectroscopy, or precision metrology
- 1+ years of relevant post-PhD experience
You’d be a great fit with:
- Experience working with high NA optics, optical design, or development of complex optical systems
- Experience in cryogenics
- Proficiency in automation of experimental and data acquisition software using modern software tools
- Engineering or systems engineering experience in transforming a complex physical system into a product based on detailed technical requirements
- 4+ years of relevant post-PhD experience in industry
This position will be based in Seattle, Washington.
The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options found on our site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
