We are looking for a Senior Manager with expertise in AMO physics and product development. As a Senior Manager for Networking Product Delivery team, you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers and quantum networking products to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you’ll lead a team of quantum physicists and engineers to deliver on products that are at the interface of quantum computing and networking.


Responsibilities:

  • Be an effective people manager and a technical expert in quantum computing/networking.
  • Mentor quantum physicists and engineers in taking assembled hardware from the initial stages of ion trapping to coherent gate operations.
  • Lead the team to success under highly ambiguous conditions.
  • Measure impact and set clear goals for your team.
  • Be hands-on technical expert and support the team in hardware development as needed.


Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics with expertise in quantum computing with trapped ions or neutral atoms.
  • 13+ years experience working in industry or national labs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical teams and growing leaders
  • Experience in delivering at least one complex system or hardware consumer product at scale.
  • Experience in leading the full product development life cycle from ideation to DVT.
  • Experience in owning the full technological development of a product across multiple domains including optical, mechanical, software, and hardware engineering.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in journals.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


Preferred qualifications:

  • 15+ years of industry experience working in industry or national labs and 5 years of direct management experience
  • Expertise in quantum networking using trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Served as a principal investigator or technical lead in the development of trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Engineering experience in transforming a complex physical system into a product.


Location:
This role will work onsite at our office located in Bothell, WA.
Travel: Less than 10%

The approximate base salary range for this position is $169,437- $221,837.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
