We are looking for a hands-on Quality Engineer (QE). As a QE, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.

In this role, you will partner with teams from manufacturing, supply chain, and design engineering to create and maintain the quality systems and processes that support the development and manufacture of our Quantum Computing products. Quality is the responsibility of everyone at IonQ and this QE role will help ensure a systematic approach to implementation, execution, and maintenance of a robust Quality Management System (QMS).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the company's nonconformance processes. Work cross-functionally to make disposition decisions, identify appropriate containment and corrective actions, and drive issues to resolution and closure.
  • Manage the company’s Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process. Track quality-related action items with vendors and suppliers, verifying completion and driving issues to closure.
  • Develop and implement incoming material inspection processes to improve inventory management and early-defect detection.
  • Represent Quality in Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC) gate reviews and approvals.
  • Lead the Qualification Review Board (QRB), and collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing to manage changes and qualifications for materials, parts, and processes.
  • Represent Quality on the company process Change Control Board (CCB), lead process changes and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Develop specific Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure performance and determine how these efforts drive overall quality improvement, leading to better customer satisfaction and lower costs (total cost of ownership).

You’d be a good fit with:

  • Minimum of 6+ years related Quality, manufacturing, and/or manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or other technical discipline
  • Previous experience in failure analysis, root cause analysis, corrective actions, implementing robust process controls, and leading process improvement.
  • Experience and knowledge of quality management systems, such as ISO 9001, and achieving business certifications.
  • Experience with quality methods and tools such as Six Sigma or Eight Disciplines
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

You’d be a great fit with:

  • General knowledge of industry technical standards (such as ANSI, CMMI, ASTM, etc.)
  • General knowledge of complex optical, electrical, or mechanical products and systems and experience in high-technology manufacturing environments
  • General knowledge of ESD, calibration, and preventive maintenance processes
  • General knowledge and experience with Reliability Engineering, translating customer availability to system/component quality and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well with customers, suppliers, and in a team environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of environmental, health & safety management systems, such as ISO 14001, and achieving business certifications.

Location: This role will work onsite at our office located in Bothell, WA.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,119 - $167,740.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
