IonQ Federal is advancing quantum computing, quantum sensing, post-quantum cryptography, and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) across the U.S. Federal Government. As Director, IonQ Federal Strategy Planning & Operations, you will help to drive organizational alignment, operational execution and excellence across IonQ Federal’s engagements with the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, Department of Energy, Treasury, NASA, and other government partners. This role will report to the Executive Chairman and Chief Corporate Affairs & Government Relations Officer, IonQ Federal.
Responsibilities:
- Partner directly with the Executive Chairman and Chief Corporate Affairs & Government Relations Officer to execute IonQ Federal’s mission and roadmap across various departments and agencies for the US government, academia, and partner industries.
- Lead cross-functional coordination among business development, engineering, government affairs, and other teams within IonQ to accelerate delivery of quantum and PNT capabilities to the Federal Government and other partners.
- Manage day-to-day operations, strategic initiatives, and executive communications across IonQ Federal’s distributed workforce. Work to establish processes within the IonQ systems and then work to constantly improve the processes and systems.
- Track actions and progress on major partnerships, contracts, and research programs, providing executive-level insight and recommendations on standard timelines and as required for decision-making at the highest levels of IonQ.
- Serve as liaison to officials and executives across DoD, IC, DOE, Treasury, NASA, and other partners to represent IonQ as needed.
- Develop strategic and execution plans ,translating complex quantum technologies into products and solutions that bring about operational outcomes for Federal partners.
- Represent IonQ Federal at classified and unclassified forums, ensuring strategic alignment and compliance are clear to internal and external partners.
You’ll be a good fit:
- 10+ years in national security, technology strategy, or defense innovation leadership.
- Experience integrating emerging technologies into government programs.
- Proven ability to manage high-velocity teams and multi-agency initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and executive-level presentation skills.
- TS/SCI eligibility; willingness to travel 50-70 percent.
Location: This position can work onsite or hybrid from one of our offices (College Park, MD, Bothell, WA) or fully remote in the US.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $162,920 - $213,304. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
