In the Copperbelt at Chililabombwe, KoBold Metals Zambia is developing the Mingomba deposit into a world-class mine.

Overview:

As the Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the Legal Department in ensuring efficient and effective provision of legal services to the Company, ensuring legal compliance and minimizing legal risk exposure to the Company.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with the preparation of legal opinions and guidance on changes to pieces of legislation affecting the operations of the Company and similar compliance related matters.
  • Assist in negotiating and drafting commercial transaction documentation and following through with all regulatory requirements.
  • Assisting to create and manage a contract management system.
  • Assist with company secretarial duties and management of compliance by various entities throughout the financial year.
  • Assist with review and drafting of contracts and ensure Vendor agreements contain sufficient protections for the Company against Vendor default and/or under performance.
  • Assist with handling correspondence, collate information, write reports and communicate to relevant company stakeholders.
  • Filing documents at various registries such as the Court Registries, the Lands and Deeds Registry, the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA).
  • Identify legal risk trends and escalate findings and proposed solutions to the Deputy General Counsel.
  • Build professional stakeholder relationships, displaying excellent abilities to listen, advise, influence, negotiate and present at all levels.
  • Assist with the legal departments due diligence efforts when the company is conducting diligence about an opportunity and when we are responding to diligence requests.
  • Work across the company to set and meet high standards of ethics, with a focus on safety, anti-corruption, community support, environmental protection, anti-discrimination, and integrity.
  • Provide immediate legal and business advice to internal clients (i.e. senior executives, Finance, HR, CSR, Corporate Communications etc).
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Degree in Law from a recognized University.
  • Member of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) with Valid Current Practicing Certificate.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Legal role function in Corporate organizations or private practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Company Law, Mining Law, Commercial Law, Environmental Law, Employment law and other relevant legislation pertaining to the operations of the business.
  • Good interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written and excellent presentation skills
