About the role
Lilac Solutions is seeking experienced Field Chemists to operate and maintain our pilot lithium processing laboratories at a project site in Hungary. This role requires hands-on analytical expertise, resourcefulness in remote environments, and the ability to work closely with engineers to keep the lab running at the highest level of reliability and data quality.
Field Chemists will be responsible for commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, with a focus on ICP-OES operation and maintenance, analytical quality control, and laboratory logistics. Successful candidates will thrive in challenging field conditions, be highly organized, and capable of building sustainable laboratory practices in resource-constrained environments. The term of employment is approximately 3 months, with the potential for extension.
What you'll do
- Lead operation of field laboratories from construction through commissioning, testing, and sustained operation.
- Operate and maintain the ICP-OES to ensure accurate and reliable lithium analysis.
- Maintain rigorous analytical quality control (QC) standards, following SOPs and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Troubleshoot laboratory and analytical issues quickly and effectively, particularly in resource-poor settings with limited vendor support.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including consumables, reagents, spares, and critical equipment parts, to minimize downtime.
- Communicate results clearly and efficiently to engineers, plant operators, and project managers.
- Train and mentor field staff on laboratory practices, instrument care, and safe operations.
- Ensure laboratory safety, compliance, and consistent upkeep of equipment through preventive maintenance routines.
- Document results, methods, and learnings to contribute to the continuous improvement of Lilac’s pilot operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related discipline.
- 1+ year hands-on experience with analytical chemistry techniques.
- ICP-OES operation and maintenance required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve technical challenges independently in remote/rural environments.
- Knowledge of aqueous and inorganic chemistry.
- Highly organized with sharp attention to scientific and numerical detail.
- Strong communicator with proven ability to collaborate with engineers and operations staff.
- Experience in field-based roles for oil & gas, chemical processing, or mining operations preferred.
- Valid U.S. passport and willingness to travel extensively.
- Ability to obtain valid work authorization in Hungary.

Compensation
$70K-$100K annualized (commensurate with experience) plus travel bonuses and monthly phone stipend
