M2X Energy (M2X) is a venture-funded scale-up company, backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and strategic investors. M2X was founded on the belief that climate change must be addressed in our lifetime, and that solutions must be economically viable to have the greatest impact. M2X has developed a disruptive technology to convert natural gas in carbon negative methanol, to minimize wasteful gas flaring - one of the biggest contributors to the global methane emissions into the atmosphere - and reduce the associated environmental and social consequences.

We’re hiring a Director of Strategy & Business Development. As a key executive hire, you will have a profound impact on the company. This is a role where you’ll wear many hats and work closely with the executive team. We’re a fast-moving company, and to thrive in this role, you will be flexible, independent, and driven.

Role Description You will be responsible for:

  • Go to market strategy. You will define and drive M2X go to market strategy and business plan.
  • Market analysis. You will run market analysis, customer segmentation and ranking, to define M2X commercial strategy and support M2X commercial efforts.
  • Customer outreach. You will generate leads and expand our customer outreach among oil and gas operators, coal mine operators, landfill owners and other potential users for deployment of our systems.
  • You will negotiate commercial arrangements with O&G operators and methanol off-takers
  • Play a key role in engaging with potential new investors in the fundraising efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as finance, business, marketing, engineering, applied sciences, and energy/climate policy.
  • Experience in developing customer relationships in related industries
  • Experience of structuring and negotiating commercial partnerships and agreements.
  • Significant real-world experience with market research & analysis and business plans writing.
  • Experience with financial modelling
  • Experience in working in highly innovative, dynamic, entrepreneurial environments (startups, incubators, accelerators, VC and venture builders)
  • A deep desire to address climate change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas/Energy space and in-depth knowledge of how the industry works and the key players.
  • Consulting or investment banking background
  • Network in the Venture Capital and Corporate Venture Capital industry
  • Familiarity and experience with the range of government agencies, including the Department of Energy, ARPA-E, Department of Defense, NYSERDA, MASS CEC, and CARB.
