We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Operations Coordinator to oversee the daily operational efficiency and safety of our laboratory facilities. The successful candidate will manage laboratory utilities, coordinate contractor work and vendor services, and ensure compliance with environmental health and safety (EHS) standards. This role serves as a key operational partner to our R&D teams and is essential for maintaining a safe, organized, and high-functioning research environment. This role supports laboratory operations and infrastructure and does not involve conducting scientific research.

This is a full-time position, located in R&D Center in Creve Coeur, MO.

Essential Functions:

  • Basic competency to move, set up, and maintain equipment up to including 100lbs
  • Conduct regular safety checks (fire extinguishers, eyewash, safety showers etc.)
  • Perform physical walkthroughs multiple times per week to monitor gas cylinder inventory; replace tanks and regulators as needed. Maintain the chemical inventory including receiving new arrivals and scanning out empty containers.
  • Serve as coordinator for laboratory tours and visitors.
  • • Support overall laboratory operations and infrastructure to ensure labs remain safe, compliant, and fully operational for research teams.

Competencies:

Knowledge & Application

  • Strong understanding of EHS protocols, hazardous waste handling, and biosafety standard to ensure the laboratory remains professional, organized, and audit-ready at all times
  • Partner with EHS to responsibly manage waste streams and maintain compliance for disposal. Oversee the collection of solid biowaste and perform in-house treatment of liquid biowaste.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, coordination, or facility management within a scientific or R&D environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory infrastructure (electrical requirements, air handling, waste disposal, etc.) to identify building requirements for new lab equipment. Coordinate with property management and general contractors to oversee the installation.
  • Ability to perform physical walkthroughs, handle gas cylinders, and assist in moving/setting up equipment.

Complexity & Problem Solving

  • Ability to troubleshoot common issues with lab equipment
  • Assist equipment owners with setup and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and expand capabilities.
  • Process incoming packages via NetSuite and prepare outgoing FedEx shipments.
  • Create Purchase orders, receive, and stock critical lab supplies.

Collaboration & Interaction

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Collaborate with owners of lab areas to build a strong safety culture and ensure all lab processes are conducted safely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for managing contractors and hosting visitors.
  • Act as the primary liaison for lab service providers and facility vendors such as gas suppliers, lab coat providers, and hazardous waste services.

Work Environment

  • Actively working in lab environment
  • Job will involve office and computer-based work for record keeping.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Travel Required:

  • Regular (weekly or more frequently as needed) visits to Hazelwood facility to pick up additional supplies, or transport material samples.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in lab coordination, operations, or a related facility management role within a scientific environment
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
