Prolific Machines is on a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture. We believe that we have the only solution to make cultured meat at a price that is competitive with factory farming. We are looking for mission-driven, skilled, and kind people to help create the alternative we need to transition to a more sustainable and healthy future.

Diversity : We value diverse people, perspectives, and knowledge. To this end, we aim to foster a sense of belonging that enables everyone to bring their whole, authentic self to work everyday. We are committed to growing a diverse and inclusive team that encompasses all types of people. We believe this can only be achieved by acknowledging the ancestral, historic, and current systemic and communal inequities.

The Position

We’re looking for a scientist to support the synthetic genomics screening platform at Prolific Machines. The synthetic biology group is expanding a multi-omics backed cell engineering platform for evolving cell traits that drive Prolific Machine’s cultured meat products. You will be instrumental in developing and refining our high-throughput genetic perturbation platform through domain expertise in pooled and arrayed functional genomic screens. You’ll work cross collaboratively with team members in exploratory and cell biology, hardware engineering, bioprocessing, and materials and data science disciplines to create large and iterative cell engineering screens that produce high performance cell products. This is a unique position and opportunity to leverage quantitative biology in an industrial setting. You’ll be provided with tons of room for technical growth and professional development towards either research management or deep individual contributor tracks with opportunities to mentor and manage early career professionals and interface with company strategy and decision making.

Some Things About You

  • Self-starter who’s committed to team science while excited to drive innovation and build infrastructure independently
  • Have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Enjoy project planning and execution

Some Things You'll Need To Succeed

  • Have a Ph.D. in Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or in a related field and 1-2 years of research experience or 7+ years of relevant research experience
  • Strong experience with functional genomics methods including pooled or arrayed screens
  • Proficient in high throughput mammalian cell engineering methods, including but not limited to CRISPR, Piggybac, and Sleeping Beauty
  • Proficient in modern NGS library preparation and Illumina sequencing
  • Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques
  • Strong experience with fluorescence assays, flow cytometry, and microscopy
  • Have some domain expertise in any of the following: cultured meat, stem cell biology, cell differentiation, cancer biology, muscle biology, or adipogenesis

This position description likely contains skills you already have as well as skills you would learn in the role. These skills are not requirements, so if you think you would do a great job at this role then you should apply regardless of whether you fit the above criteria.

Start Date: Flexible; within the next 3 months.

Benefits: Outstanding Health, Vision & Dental Insurance (including full spouse coverage), at least one all-expense-paid team holiday per year, flexibility in schedule and unlimited vacation days. Free lunch every day!
