Role:
QuantumScape is seeking a highly-motivated process engineer to develop our powder processes for novel solid-state battery materials. You will learn how the technology works, develop new materials to be integrated into the device, and contribute to the scaling-up of the processes.
Our ideal team member is self-motivated, a quick learner, and can adapt to a multifaceted work environment and enjoys working on exciting and impactful projects.
In this role, you will:
Develop processes that are aligned with the platform goals
Define specifications for the processes and materials of interest
Qualify and introduce scaled-up processes to our baseline flow
Develop and monitor quality control metrics for the above process modules
Lead continuous improvement and troubleshooting of process modules
Demonstrate a scalable and repeatable approach to achieve the performance
Characterize physical properties of solid-state materials and understand their physical limitations
Explore alternate scaling-up routes and transfer process to HVM toolsets
Perform data analysis and develop control charts
Minimum Requirements:
Education & Experience: You possess a Master's degree in Materials Science (or a related field) with proven experience with process development
You are familiar with materials synthesis (e.g., solid-state synthesis, ball mill, attrition mill) and/or roll-to-roll processes
You are conversant with electrochemistry
You are experienced in safe laboratory practices, especially in handling hazardous chemicals
You have good interpersonal and presentation skills
You are proficient in JMP and/or Python for the application of statistical methods for experiment planning, data analysis, and process control
You love working on an energizing and ground breaking technology
You share our passion for our mission
You are comfortable working in a glovebox, dry room or fume hood
You are motivated to learn new techniques and refine existing techniques
Nice to Haves
PhD with experience in energy materials research
Experience with tool specification and design
Familiarity with technology transfer and FMEA principles
Physical Requirements:
May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time.
May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist.
May be required to use hand or power tools.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, push and extend arms.
