QuantumScape is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our growing team to support the design and development of critical process equipment. The position will focus on hands-on hardware design and development with the goal of identifying scalable concepts for volume production.

This role includes the design automation solutions to accomplish specific process goals, iterative hands-on design / verification, and the emphasis on scalable equipment design. You will work with other engineers and scientists and will be responsible for driving and completing assigned projects through all stages of the design process, including specification, design, prototyping, assembly and testing.
Responsibilities
• Develop, troubleshoot and continuously improve controls software (Rockwell Automation, FANUC, Cognex, Ignition) and system through the full lifecycle, from process specification to software requirements, architecture (Robots, PLC, Servo, Vision, HMI ) , implementation algorithms, coding, testing, and production.
• Equipment design function, develops and implements concepts for range of significantly complex product issues and engineering solutions, lead and/or execute engineering projects/programs.
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate new tools/processes and bring them to production line.
• Technically lead and/or execute engineering projects and spearhead research and development of new technologies, as appropriate.
• Safety system design, and safety I/O components selection, such as light curtain, door locks, safety switches, Hardwired safety and safety over ethernet. Safety performance level and implementation of Pld, Ple, SIL2/SIL3 system using Guardlogix.
• A strong understanding of SEMI (S2, S8, S22 and F47), NFPA 79 and UL standards.
• Design overall system architectures system field bus topology and network topology. Ethernet IP, Modbus, Serial etc.)
• Create and maintain proper documentations.
Minimum Requirements
• BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in an automation software engineering position
• In depth knowledge of manufacturing automation solutions. Robots, PLC, Servo, Vision, HMI etc. (Rockwell Automation, FANUC, Cognex, Ignition)
• Experience with electrical and Control system documentation, including System Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, BOM, Control Enclosure Layout, Power and Interlock Schematics.
• Proficiency in programming PLC, HMI and Robotics
• Proficiency in field network topology, both theory and practical applications
• Ability to turn complex automation problems into novel solutions.
• Good written and spoken communication skills
• Multi-tasking ability, priority management and sense of urgency
• Able to work under pressure per tight schedule
• Knowledge of system and parts reliability
ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role has a range of $152,850 to $233,100, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
