QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

About the team: The Cell Development team is a diverse group of scientists and engineers responsible for transitioning manufacturing processes to automated, high-volume production. The team's primary objective is to work with R&D and automation teams to develop and refine production methodologies, ensuring they are robust, repeatable, and scalable for automated manufacturing. The team prides itself on flexibility and adaptability working on the forefront of battery technology.

What we need: We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support our Cell Development team. As a Process Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, validation, and optimization of processes for automated production. You will collaborate with R&D and automation teams to integrate and validate new equipment. You will proactively identify potential bottlenecks or failure points, while also troubleshooting issues that may arise. A background in electrochemical energy storage and a mechanically inclined disposition are valuable assets for this position.

What You’ll do:

  • Innovate and refine manufacturing processes for automated cell production
  • Collaborate with R&D and automation teams to ensure process specifications and performance targets are met
  • Characterize the physical and electrochemical properties of cells using a suite of advanced analytical methods
  • Take ownership of process failures and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions directly on the production floor
  • Prepare and present high-quality technical reports to internal and external stakeholders

Skills You’ll Need:

  • You have a sound understanding of materials science and mechanics
  • You are a self-starter with a track record of acquiring and applying new skills to achieve results
  • You are comfortable working in a glovebox, dry room, or fume hood
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changes
  • You are a strong communicator and enjoy working on a team to solve complex challenges
  • MS in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related technical field or BS with a minimum of 2 years experience in a research and development role

Nice to have:

  • Hands-on research experience in device assembly from battery, semiconductor, or other high-volume/high-precision manufacturing industry
  • Familiarity with electrochemistry or energy storage-related technologies

Physical requirements:

  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and twisting motions with hands
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs

ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $117,500 to $152,700 and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
