Report To: Consulting Member of Technical Staff or Senior Director

Location: Onsite

About QS: QuantumScape (NYSE: QS) is on a mission to revolutionize energy storage to enable a sustainable future. The company’s next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology is designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

About the team: The Battery Systems Development team builds and tests systems powered by QS cells. We’re a diverse, hands-on group of engineers who value fast learning and resourcefulness. We work closely with our cell, electrical testing, and product teams to deliver high impact prototypes and reference designs.

What we need: QuantumScape is seeking a hands-on Battery Pack Team Lead to own pack architecture, delivery, and team execution for programs that integrate next‑generation cells into safe, reliable, and testable packs. You’ll lead a small team (engineers and technicians), act as the technical authority on pack design & validation, and drive cross-functional collaboration to meet schedule, performance, safety, and quality targets.

What You’ll do:

  • Pack architecture & design – translate cell electro‑mechanical constraints into module/pack layouts, interconnect schemes, and mechanical housings.
  • Handson prototyping – tab & ultrasonic/laser/spot welding, bus‑bar machining, harness and custom cable fabrication, potting, sealing, and enclosure builds in our in‑house lab.
  • Electrical integration – select and tune BMS ICs, design wire harnesses, and high‑current connectors; validate with oscilloscopes, SMUs, battery cyclers, and HV probes.
  • Testing & data analysis – run performance, safety, abuse, and environmental tests; analyze cycling & impedance data to guide design iterations.
  • Crossfunctional leadership – collaborate with Cell, Product, and Safety teams; author build documentation, BoMs, and validation testing reports; mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Skills You’ll Need:

  • Engineering (or related field) degree and 12+ years industrial experience. 5+ years combined experience designing and/or testing packs or cells.
  • Hands-on experience with battery cyclers (e.g. Arbin, Maccor), oscilloscopes, isolated differential probes, DMMs,
  • Working knowledge of BMS architectures (AFE/ADC, fuel‑gauge, passive & active balancing, protection) and communication buses (CAN 2.0/FD, SMBus).
  • Solid understanding of cell chemistries and architectures.
  • Superb interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Desire to work in fast fast-paced and constantly evolving environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience integrating solid state cells and managing their unique constraints.
  • CAD proficiency for mechanical/electrical layouts (e.g., SolidWorks, Altium/KiCad) and thermal simulation (ANSYS Icepak, COMSOL, or 6SigmaET).
  • Familiarity with pack level compliance/validation workflows and environmental testing (HALT/HASS, IP ratings).
  • Rapid prototyping methods for jigs, fixtures, and enclosures (CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting).

Physical requirements:

  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area requiring the use of fine motor skills
  • Sit or stand for extended periods; perform reaching and twisting motions with hands.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs as needed.

ONSITE:

This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
