Construction EHS Engineer

The Construction EHS Engineer will work directly with the Construction Managers and Superintendents within the Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) group while reporting to Redwood’s EHS Director. The role also works closely with members of the project management, infrastructure engineering, project controls and procurement departments from preconstruction through completion and start of production. The Construction EHS Engineer will manage all construction safety associated with a large project or multiple smaller projects. This management includes scheduling of site-specific safety orientations, ongoing safety inspections, resolution of construction safety challenges, safety audits to ensure compliance with safety plans and OSHA requirements. This role must have a good rapport with field personnel and be able to speak in front of the field and project teams.

Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Identifies, documents, and resolves onsite safety risks or discrepancies during daily site walks. Documents Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) using Company prescribed procedures and software.
  • Evaluates and identifies all safety equipment needs for project work. Participates in daily and weekly meetings to ensure all necessary equipment is ordered, stocked and available for upcoming work.
  • Assists in investigations regarding accidents, injuries or illnesses, fire, property damage and other safety related incidents to ensure timely and compliant resolutions.
  • Recommends improvements based on trend analysis.
  • Ensures worksite injuries are accurately documented, and offsite medical clinics attend to employee injury in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Supports evaluation of subcontractors and subcontractor safety programs. Notifies management of any non-compliant safety procedures and participates in corrective action discussions to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.
  • Presents toolbox-talk content to project site staff within the prescribed frequency, as determined by manager.
  • Presents the progress of the project safety program to leadership, as directed.
  • Maintains knowledge of Redwood’s company values and strategic plan.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years construction EHS experience required.
  • Associate Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, or related field
  • OSHA 30 certified within the last 5 years
  • Skilled in Job Hazard Analysis
  • Ability to write and review Site Specific Safety plans
  • Ability to lead weekly safety meetings
  • Lead weekly Site Audits with Sub-Contractors
  • Able to identify onsite project safety risks and recommend mitigation within safety and project program requirements.
  • Able to take on special tasks or projects with limited direction and oversight required.
  • Strong multitasking and organization skills required.
  • Able to take ownership of assigned tasks, as defined by supervisor.
  • General knowledge of construction site equipment, methods, and processes.
  • Verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Growing knowledge to control or eliminate hazards following prescribed methods.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to perform the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders, standing, and walking (multiple level building) up to 8 hours daily, and an ability to work in manufacturing and construction environments

Working Conditions:

  • Office, Manufacturing, Construction - both indoors and outdoors
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required
