About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Staff Technical Program Manager, Big Machines

Redwood Materials is seeking a Custom Equipment Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the development and deployment of custom manufacturing equipment essential to our next-generation battery materials production lines. This role will drive cross-functional programs that span mechanical design, automation, controls, and process engineering, supporting the scale-up of proprietary equipment critical to Redwood’s mission.

As a TPM, you will work closely with internal engineering teams, equipment vendors, and operations stakeholders to define equipment specifications, manage build timelines, de-risk integration challenges, and ensure successful commissioning and handoff into production. You will also play a key role in driving technical strategy for new custom equipment platforms and continuous improvement of existing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional programs to develop and deploy custom equipment from concept through production ramp.
  • Translate process and operational requirements into detailed equipment specifications.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including RFQs, build reviews, FAT/SAT, and delivery coordination.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks throughout the lifecycle of equipment development.
  • Partner with mechanical, controls, and process engineers to ensure robust system design, safety, and maintainability.
  • Drive alignment between engineering, supply chain, facilities, and operations teams.
  • Own project schedules, budgets, and deliverables for assigned programs.
  • Track and report program status regularly to stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Influence long-term strategy for Redwood’s custom equipment roadmap, including make-vs-buy decisions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in equipment design, automation, or manufacturing scale-up.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technical programs involving custom-built machinery.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation systems, and industrial equipment design.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on, and highly collaborative environment.

Bonus

  • Experience with recycling or battery material equipment.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial control platforms.
  • Experience with process equipment such as dryers, conveyors, mixers, or kilns.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly.

Working Conditions:

  • Willing to travel to Reno, NV as needed and for onboarding (if Bay Area based)
  • Work schedule may vary depending on site operational needs, and flexibility is required
  • Split work environment between office and the production facility. Work may involve extended periods of working in the production facility.
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional work weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
