Packaging Specialist
The Packaging Specialist is responsible for executing packaging operations. In this role, individuals will perform material moves, inspections, and audits to mainly support the Redwood Materials returnable program as well as supporting other production and warehousing functions. The focus of the role is to ensure customers receive their returnables in a presentable and timely manner.
Responsibilities will include:
- Inspect, verify, and report on the quality of packaging, ensuring it is free from damage and adheres to company standards.
- Ensure packaging is free of any restricted items, such as batteries or hazardous materials.
- Support warehouse management in maintaining operational excellence
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of packaging areas by adhering to 5S principles across varying packaging styles and processes.
- Perform operational tasks related to packaging, storage, and handling of returnable packaging materials.
- Collaborate with warehouse teams to ensure smooth packaging flow, including receiving, sorting, and dispatching.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of packaging materials, ensuring availability and readiness.
- Assist in process improvements, ensuring all packaging operations are executed seamlessly and efficiently.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines in handling and inspecting packaging.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in warehouse, packaging, or operations roles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to inspect packaging materials for defects.
- Familiarity with USDOT Dangerous Goods shipping and preparation
- Experience prepping and loading trucks for shipment in a warehouse environment
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as inspecting and organizing packaging materials.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with other warehouse departments.
- Forklift certified preferred.
- Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing operational challenges.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including meeting both qualitative and quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in line with ADA, FMLA, and applicable standards
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety gloves, helmets, and eyewear, or additional PPE when required
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively on the telephone, including listening and speaking
Working Conditions:
- Warehouse setting, manufacturing floor, outdoor job site, or office work
- Required to work weekends, evenings, on-call shifts, or extended hours as needed
- 10% of the time, occasional travel, or frequent travel for meetings, site visits, or events
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
