Supervisor, Fleet
The CDL Fleet Supervisor will be responsible for managing and coordinating all daily operational activities of the company's fleet of commercial motor vehicles and their drivers. This role ensures maximum fleet efficiency and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including those from the Department of Transportation (DOT). The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of fleet operations and maintenance, and a commitment to safety and cost-effectiveness.
A Shift: (Sun - Tues and every other Wed) 6am to 6pm
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Oversee the daily dispatching, routing, and scheduling of vehicles and drivers to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Monitor the fleet's real-time location, vehicle status, and utilization through GPS and telematics software.
- Create statistical and financial models and use appropriate software to review opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies in the logistics process
- Provide support and dispatch personnel to emergencies involving fleet vehicles, including after-hours incidents
- Supervise, train, and mentor CDL drivers, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Monitor and coach drivers on performance, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate driver records, including licensing, certifications, and training.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
- Oversee and manage vehicle and equipment repairs, either with in-house technicians or external vendors.
- Manage fuel usage and costs, and track other equipment and supply inventories.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including FMCSA and DOT rules.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure all safety regulations are followed and proper records are maintained.
- Investigate and respond to all fleet-related incidents and accidents, ensuring proper reporting procedures are followed.
- Prepare and manage the fleet budget, tracking expenses for fuel, maintenance, and other operational costs.
- Use fleet management software to track assets, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports for management.
Desired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in fleet operations or maintenance, with 2 or more years in a supervisory role.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is often required or preferred.
- Professional certifications, such as Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Transportation Professional (CTP), are highly desirable
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate staff.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially during emergencies.
- Proficiency with fleet management software, GPS, and other telematics systems.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state transportation regulations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, and kneeling to inspect vehicles.
Working Conditions:
- Office Environment: Fast-paced environment that requires a mix of office-based administrative duties and hands-on work in the field and maintenance shops.
- May require working varied hours, responding to emergencies outside of normal business hours, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
