Founded in 2019, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Essential Duties:
As a Hardware Test Engineering Intern, you will support the design and execution of hardware validation tests for a new product at Redwood Materials. You will work alongside hardware test, design and reliability engineers and gain hands-on exposure across mechanical, electrical and software engineering disciplines. This internship will provide practical experience throughout the hardware development cycle, including instrumentation, design of experiments, design validation, test automation and reliability testing.
This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented engineering student who enjoys hands-on work, thinking through complex hardware interactions, and applying engineering fundamentals to real-world product development challenges.
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Assist in the design, setup and execution of validation tests for a new electromechanical product
- Work with cross-functional teams to gain a deep understanding of engineering challenges at hand, and help develop test plans
- Help specify, build and maintain physical test infrastructure such as fixtures, instrumentation, environmental chambers and high voltage power supplies
- Contribute to the development of test & analysis automation tools
- Participate in failure analysis activities, including teardowns and root cause investigations
- Collect, analyze, document and communicate key learnings from test data
Desired Qualifications:
- Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics or a related field
- Project experience involving hands-on testing, lab work or electromechanical systems
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals
- Interest in working across various engineering disciplines and willingness to learn
- Introductory programming experience; Object-oriented programming experience preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Motivated, curious, and eager to learn with a get-it-done attitude
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
Working Conditions:
- Environment, such as office or outdoors
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
- Occasional travel requirements as needed
In accordance with California pay transparency laws, the salary range for this position is listed below. Actual compensation may vary based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and skills.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
