Position Overview

Summary: As Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of our products and procedures through rigorous inspections, implementation of quality control measures, and identification of areas for improvement. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality issues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to building high-quality products that exceed customer expectations. The position responsibilities require some work experience and a studied background in engineering or quality assurance, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. The objective is to enhance your ability to identify and address engineering challenges, while implementing continuous improvement and driving toward operational excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Foster a zero-injury culture: conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to minimize hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Prepare and review In Process Inspection Report and Factory Inspection Report.
  • Create, manage parameters and measurements for inspectors for recording data on test/inspection logs.
  • Assist inspectors performing tests in the lab as needed.
  • Manage the Calibration Log, JIRA software (for NCRs and CARs).
  • Gather KPI numbers from key process stakeholders for the first two weeks of each month.
  • Calculation Scrap Rates for KPI.
  • Calculate FPYs of Inspection and Manufacturing processes each month.
  • Develop procedure and culture to ensure a Nonconformance Record (NCR) is written for every deviation from a product requirement.
  • Open a Corrective Action Report (CAR) for every significant NCR (i.e. costly scrap impact, safety concern, quality escape).
  • Perform root cause analysis for open CAR to identify the primary root causes for the issue and include all stakeholders (operators, engineers, inspectors, supervisors).Set detailed guidelines on what needs to be checked and what the quality standards are.
  • Eliminate process variation by creating, revising and strictly implementing a set of tightly and precisely defined procedures or quality standards that when exactly followed, ensure the final quality of the product.
  • Implement and ensure other are following preventative quality tasks.
  • Update our Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes and improvements.
  • Audit our systems based on ISO requirements.
  • Audit our system based on customer quality standards.
  • Follow and ensure that the determined quality metrics are achieved for all manufacturing procedures.
  • Monitor the entire production cycle and perform regular tests to identify potential malfunctions as early as possible.
  • Inspect product materials and electrical systems for defects and durability.
  • Prepare reports on malfunctions and corrective actions (e.g. number of defective raw materials per order).
  • Review current blueprints and quality documentation.
  • Track and report on quality assurance goals (e.g. reduce average turnaround time for quality checks by 20%).
  • Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and technicians to ensure legal compliance.
  • Work with internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving the quality of the products.
  • Follow Six Sigma techniques and tools for process improvement to improve the output quality of our process by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes (ERP).
  • Analyze quality data, identify trends, and develop solutions to optimize quality assurance and control performance and reduce costs.
  • Create and manage process documentation including creation of SOPs, technical reports, specifications, and project plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality and process changes, test results, and project progress.
  • Ensure quality control to ensure adherence to engineering standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering and purchasing to identify quality improvement opportunities.
  • Become a subject expert in the relevant field of expertise: provide technical support and training to quality and inspection personnel.
  • Participate in meetings, conduct training, provide updates on progress, and contribute to effective communication within the team.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in quality engineering control and assurance.
  • Adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols to ensure that work meets legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary certifications or approvals.
  • Continuously work in a safe manner and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Follow company rules and guidelines.
  • Comply with cross-training and other training requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed, such as supporting preventative maintenance tasks, spare parts, and tooling management.

Requirements / Training And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in quality engineering, or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant field is preferred.
  • One or two years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing company or internship in a related field is highly desired.
  • Previous work experience as a Quality Engineer or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies
  • In-depth understanding of technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis.
  • Great attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

  • Good analytical skills.
  • Additional certification in Quality Assurance is a plus.

Work Environment

The Quality Engineer position works in a combination of work settings from office, lab to a safety sensitive manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer will often work directly on the shop floor of the manufacturing facility, near and around large-scale production processes and equipment to interact with production teams and observe processes. The Quality Engineer may also work in Research and Development (R&D) and Quality Control Testing to design and develop new manufacturing processes, testing, and experiments to improve product design and production methods, and to ensure product quality and compliance with standards. The position will spend time in the quality control lab performing tasks such as testing, documenting to improve manufacturing production lines, analyzing data, creating instructions, and collaborating with others. Occasionally, the Quality Engineer will participate in on-site visits needed to visit suppliers, vendors, or customer sites to review quality issues, or assess material or tooling quality and performance. Occupational health and safety practices are essential in manufacturing environments, and the Quality Engineer is expected to adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment when necessary.
