Summary: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance activities within the facility are carried out efficiently and effectively, optimizing equipment performance, and maintaining a safe work environment. This role involves managing a team of maintenance personnel, developing maintenance schedules, coordinating repair activities, and implementing preventative maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and maximize efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians and staff. Assign daily tasks, provide guidance, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to reduce equipment failure and extend asset life.
  • Maintenance Scheduling & Coordination: Plan and schedule maintenance activities to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and production needs.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Prepare and manage the maintenance department budget, ensuring that expenditures on parts, labor, and repairs are controlled and within financial guidelines.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Supervise troubleshooting of complex equipment malfunctions and ensure timely and effective repairs. Oversee emergency repair situations as needed.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety standards and ensure all maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain safety records and ensure the team is trained in safety protocols.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, equipment servicing, and supplies.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the procurement and management of spare parts and tools, maintaining optimal inventory levels to avoid downtime due to lack of supplies.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to maintain records of maintenance activities, including service reports, maintenance logs, and inspections. Provide regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), the status of equipment, maintenance trends, and budget performance to the operations team and to senior management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in maintenance practices, equipment, and facilities to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations and safety protocols to ensure that work meets legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements / Training And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in maintenance management, preferably in an industrial manufacturing environment, with 2+ years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment
  • Proficiency in a reputable maintenance management system (CMMS) software e.g. Limble, Maximo, Fiix.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. Certified Maintenance Manager, HVAC or PMP certification) are a plus.
  • Proficient in capital project management and budgeting processes.
  • Experience of automation, and PLC troubleshooting and programming a plus.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven experience with equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Must be available for on-call emergencies or irregular hours when needed
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office programs
  • Operating knowledge and experience of design software and engineering tools
  • Experience of ERP/MRP systems (e.g. NetSuite, SAP, Epicor)
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and six sigma principles.

Work Environment

The Maintenance Manager will be required to work on the manufacturing floor and to spend some time using a computer, tablet or other electronic media to analyze data.

Occupational health and safety practices are essential in manufacturing environments and all employees are expected to adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment when necessary.
