Turntide’s Transport group is based in the Northeast of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.

There is a massive change happening across industrial Transportation. Globally there is a rapid shift to new electrified platforms to meet the demands of their end users looking to reduce carbon emissions and create entirely new product types. Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition.

We are hiring for a Director of Product Applications Engineering who will develop and grow a world-class global team of Product Applications Engineers to accelerate our customers’ product design and integration work with Turntide’s products to support pre- and post-sales activities, bring in-house new customers insights and deliver best-in-class Customer Experience.

The role will be based at Waterloo, in Canada and reports into the VP of Engineering – Transport and will involve travelling between different offices.

Job Role

In this role the Director, Product Applications Engineering will be responsible for the following:

  • Championing and developing our Global Applications Engineering function through coaching, mentoring and continuous improvement of the Applications Engineering team and their capabilities.
  • Develop and execute on a strategy to provide product collateral, reference designs and prototypes and demonstrate a deep understanding of how Turntide’s products are used in their end-applications, ranging from electrified Off-Highway and Commercial vehicles, Construction, AGVs to Rail and Marine.
  • Partner with our Sales, Product & Engineering organizations to drive new business opportunities, improving the customer experience whilst bringing new customer insights back in-house for future product developments.
  • Developing (including hiring) and coaching the team to build a deep understanding Tuntide’s products as well as how to apply them for end-user applications.
  • Supporting new business opportunities with technical supporting including RFQs, design reviews and Voice of Customer inputs.
  • Keeping relevant key stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Product and Engineering) within the Turntide business updated with new business opportunities, technical achievements, and challenges.

Experience and Skills

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • A Strong background in Applications Engineering in Electronics / Electrical Engineering, with experience in mechanical systems and software considered a strong advantage.
  • Extensive experience working with customers in technical setting, including team problems solving and solution selling.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of power electronics products (such as motor inverters, DCDCs or chargers), electric motors or battery technologies.
  • Dealing with customers, sales, engineering, outside service providers and other stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen and results driven.
  • Proactively identifying and resolving problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Strategic thinker, able to translate customer and market trends into actions to improve customer support and product use cases.
  • Good attention to detail and time management skills
  • Must be able to travel domestically or internationally (sometimes with limited notice)

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Functional safety standards, such as ISO26262, IEC61508, D0178B or similar.
  • APQP, or similar project milestone-based processes.
  • Working with large OEMs or tier 1 suppliers, in markets such as automotive, rail and aerospace.

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering or technical experience could also be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical, Electronics or related engineering.
