We are seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer to join our team and drive our customer pursuits in North America. Turntide designs, develops and manufactures axial flux motors, HV inverters, LV motor controllers, batteries, pumps and fans for commercial vehicle, off-highway vehicle and non-road applications. We sell our product directly to OEMs and System Integrators. Our axial flux technology is unique in the industry and offers higher power density and efficiency compared to radial flux technology. The power electronics line is positioned to offer the highest performance at the lowest cost. OEMs and system integrators combine our batteries in series and parallel to offer different system level voltages and energy levels creating the perfect energy storage and drive unit for each application.

The Job

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within the Applications Engineering and Sales Team reporting to the NA Sales Director
  • Engage with a range of customers from small to global enterprises
  • Assist with motor characterization using dynos at our facilities in Waterloo, Canada, the UK and on-site customer locations
  • Respond to customer queries via email, telephone, remote desktop or on-site
  • Log and analyse data from the CAN communication network (CANopen, J1939, etc.)
  • Generate and maintain Turntide documentation e.g. FAQs, Application Notes, Visit Reports.
  • Partner with the Sales Team working with customers to understand their technical needs and drive that feedback into Turntide Product and Engineering groups.
  • Inform customers about the use of Turntide products through formal and informal training, including maintaining user documentation, service manuals and maintenance manuals
  • Support the installation, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and customer training of Turntide products at customer locations
  • Translate customers’ needs into potential improvements to the platform, by presenting information to the design teams on customer usage
  • Assist all design for serviceability activities early in the product life cycle
  • Provide build/assembly support during the prototype, pilot, and production phases
  • Document in-field issues and provide input for escalation of difficult-to-solve problems to the designated technical support group
  • Help establish a preventative maintenance schedule to be carried out regularly by customers
  • Assure all customers’ problems are handled with a minimum delay and within the allotted time

Qualifications

  • Experience (Industry preferred; academic will be considered) in one or more of the following:
  • Battery storage solutions / Battery Management Systems
  • Power Electronics (Inverters, DCDCs, OBCs)
  • Electric Machines (PMAC, Induction, SRM)
  • Thermo Systems (Pumps and Fans)
  • Must be able to travel both nationally and internationally, sometimes with limited notice
  • Excel at working autonomously in a remote, fast-paced, and dynamic environment
  • Passionate about winning as a team; high degree of team-orientation
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in a logical, methodical manner
  • Establish and maintain a positive customer experience
  • Ability to interface with multiple departments to accomplish tasks
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage his/her own workload to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to work from technical manuals, work instructions, work orders and follow-up of historic troubleshooting findings and notes
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and principles
  • Ability to quickly build a rapport with customers
  • Degree-educated in relevant discipline

Other Relevant Experience

  • Knowledge of Functional Safety e.g. ISO26262, ISO13849, IEC61508, D0178B
  • Knowledge of EMC, Environmental, Product Safety and Electrical test standards e.g. ISO16750, ECE R10, R100
  • Experience with on highway, off highway and/or non-road vehicle applications
  • Experience presenting at industry events, customer events, STEM, etc.
  • Direct sales experience
