WHY VEIR?
Giving everyone in the world access to clean, reliable, affordable energy will require substantial expansion of global electricity transmission networks. VEIR is developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS)-based transmission lines, enabling long distance, reliable, low loss, cost–effective power transfer in far smaller right–of–ways. VEIR’s innovations overcome the main barriers to transmission expansion, enabling the world to access the very lowest cost renewable power.
THE ROLE:
VEIR is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team. As an individual contributor, you will develop high-power components for VEIR prototypes and products. This role represents a key domain of expertise in high-voltage power transmission hardware. Insulation coordination, high-voltage and high-current design, lightening and fault-current protection coordination will be your primary focus as you will also integrate your designs with the overarching product requirements and functions.

You Are:

  • An experienced High Voltage Design and Test Engineer. You have spent many years of your career designing and testing high-power equipment such as conductors, cables, insulators, power connectors, arrestors, circuit breakers, relay switches, transformers, reactors, fault current limiters, etc.
  • Problem Solver by nature. You thrive on tackling engineering challenges, using solid engineering principles to solve them. Confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, you meticulously evaluate available options and associated risks in line with project goals and needs. This approach ensures finding solutions that meet requirements while minimizing risk and cost.
  • A strong communicator. You keep others informed as you perform your daily tasks. You understand the importance of communicating your successes, challenges, and delays.
  • A capable collaborator. You understand that we can accomplish more as a team than as individuals. Working by yourself is essential, but the ability to help the group achieve its objectives is key. You also have experience successfully engaging external vendors and contractors to support your project’s objectives.
  • Safety Focused. You exemplify the best in our industry in visible safety leadership.
  • Curious by nature, you want to understand why things work and how technological decisions are made.

You Will

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering[FM1] , or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in an electrical engineering role focusing on hardware.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in designing and testing high-voltage electrical components, and high-current conductors.
  • Strong knowledge and application of Industry Standards such as IEC, IEEE, and Cigre.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and analysis.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results within tight deadlines.
