Technical Lead - Cryogenic Infrastructure
VEIR
WHY VEIR?
VEIR is enabling a new generation of compact, efficient, high-power, and long-distance power delivery solutions, solving bottlenecks that exist across the entire electricity value chain, from generation through to data center server racks. VEIR's low voltage superconducting solutions are enabling new power delivery architectures in the world’s largest data centers and our higher voltage solutions are poised to revolutionize the development of electricity transmission and distribution lines. VEIR is preparing for rapid growth as we seek to solve critical challenges facing data center developers, electricity generation developers, and utilities around the world.
The Role
As the Technical Lead – Cryogenic Infrastructure, you will be the technical leader responsible for the design, development, and integration of VEIR’s liquid nitrogen infrastructure across all three of our product platforms. You’ll lead a cross-functional team of engineers developing the cryogenic hardware and distribution systems that enable safe, reliable, and high-performance cooling for VEIR’s HTS cables.
This role combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership. You’ll set direction, motivate the team, and ensure VEIR’s cryogenic infrastructure meets ambitious performance, reliability, and scalability goals. You’ll act as the “coach” of the cryogenic systems team, ensuring the right people are working on the right problems, aligning resources, and guiding the technical path forward for VEIR’s core cooling technology.
While not all team members will report to you directly, you’ll be accountable for ensuring that the cryogenic infrastructure team executes effectively, collaborates well across disciplines, and delivers on VEIR’s mission to scale superconducting power delivery.
In Your First 3–6 Months, You Will
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of VEIR’s cryogenic systems, distribution architecture, and how the cryogenic infrastructure integrates across product platforms.
- Apply your technical expertise in cryogenic hardware, thermal systems, and fluid management to guide design decisions, identify system-level risks, and support problem-solving during active builds.
- Leverage your leadership and coaching skills to motivate and align a multidisciplinary team, ensuring clear priorities and strong communication across engineering functions.
- Establish effective interfaces between the cryogenic infrastructure team and adjacent groups in conductor assembly, controls, and testing.
- Define deliverables, schedules, and key technical milestones for the cryogenic infrastructure roadmap.
- Evaluate team structure, resources, and project load, and propose improvements to strengthen execution and collaboration.
- Lead design and safety reviews for cryogenic subsystems, driving decisions that balance innovation, reliability, and operational safety.
In Your First Year, You Will
- Own the overall technical roadmap for cryogenic infrastructure across all VEIR product lines.
- Lead the development and integration of liquid nitrogen distribution systems, storage, and control components that meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
- Establish best practices for design documentation, thermal modeling, system testing, and commissioning.
- Partner closely with program management and other technical leads to ensure cryogenic milestones align with overall product development goals.
- Mentor and coach engineers within the cryogenic and system integration domains, fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and technical rigor.
- Identify and de-risk critical technical challenges in cryogenic system design, controls integration, and manufacturability.
To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Cryogenic, Chemical, or Systems Engineering (Ph.D. a plus).
- 8+ years of experience developing and integrating cryogenic or thermal management systems for hardware products or industrial applications.
- Deep understanding of liquid nitrogen handling, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and cryogenic safety practices.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams or large-scale engineering programs.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and controls systems for cryogenic processes (PLC, sensors, DAQ, etc.) is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to balance hands-on technical work with strategic leadership and program oversight.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, able to translate complex technical challenges into clear action plans and deliver results.
