Job Description
As a member of the Assay Development team, you will support the development of methods to quantitatively characterize methanotrophic consortia to make data-driven decisions for downstream applications. This a great opportunity to apply and learn a variety of microbiology and molecular biology techniques, as well as data analysis and presentation skills.

As a member of the Assay Development team, you will support the development of methods to quantitatively characterize methanotrophic consortia to make data-driven decisions for downstream applications. This a great opportunity to apply and learn a variety of microbiology and molecular biology techniques, as well as data analysis and presentation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design/execute experimental plans with supervisor. Some examples of what these plans could involve are:
- Assess bacterial growth in different conditions (colony counting, OD, biofilm quantification)
- Analyze methane consumption for consortia (GC-FID analysis, blue vary, etc.)
- Quantification of Nitrogen fixation (15N stable isotope, acetylene reduction assay)
- Support other teams to quantify their biological processes (fermentation, product)
- Data analysis and reporting (JMP)
- Presentation in team meetings
- BS / MS in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or other related scientific discipline (3+ years of exp preferred)
- Knowledge of basic microbiology techniques, including aseptic handling, autoclaving, media preparation, plating, etc.
- Strong experience with bacterial cell growth and optimization
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (primer design, PCR, nucleic acid quantification).
- Prior experience with data analysis (JMP, R, etc) highly desirable
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
