Zap Energy is a fast-growing company developing a novel approach to commercial fusion energy. We’re looking for a Construction Manager who has experience coordinating and supervising the construction of various complicated technical systems and facilities projects on short timelines.

This person will bring previous experience in similar roles in a manufacturing, industrial, commercial, or technology environment. This role is deeply interdisciplinary and instrumental in executing projects that enable the rapid development of commercialized fusion energy and is embedded with the team in our Everett area locations.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own construction elements of project schedules and budgets; build realistic yet aggressive, resource-loaded construction plans that take into account scope, stakeholder priorities, engineering efforts, lead times, permitting, construction time, and any other risks or inputs.

  • Manage plans and communication to oversee work from end-to-end for any construction project, including coordination of construction supply chain, working directly with equipment owners, engineers, scientists, and related functions.

  • Continually plan and resource construction projects to effectively execute.

  • Collaborate effectively as an integrated member of project teams to drive efficiency and deliver on time and on budget, including strong change management practices.

  • Manage ongoing contractor relationships – including defining scopes of work and establishing work processes, as well as commercial terms (service level agreements and expectations)

  • Manage rigorous RFI and RFQ process with design-build and construction contractors and de-risk construction vendor supply base.

  • Work closely with a Project Coordinator to inform Finance and other back-office functions to maintain robust business operations, particularly on forecasting/estimating and actual spend.

  • Meticulously track project tasks and progress using internal tools (Jira, etc.) and report regularly to project leads and executives.

  • Maintain a customer-centric attitude and a team culture of serving internal clients as best as possible.

  • Support document management, project closeout, and turnover to customers and Facilities.

  • Facilitate all permitting for construction projects.

Qualifications and Skills:
Required:

  • Over 15 years of proven experience in construction management

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; significant experience managing and growing in-house teams and trades a plus.

  • Computer fluency – including ability to use (or quickly learn) corporate and construction software. Strong client orientation, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work in an environment with a degree of ambiguity, frequent interruptions, and changing tasks and priorities.

  • Highly self-motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently and prioritize workload, but also work collaboratively and effectively with other team members.

  • Highly resourceful when tasked with executing outside of current toolset.


Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field.

  • Knowledge of City of Everett and City of Mukilteo permitting processes.

  • 10+ years of experience in an electrical, mechanical, structural, or construction trade.

  • Experience with commissioning systems and an understanding of how to build up to full-system turnover.

  • Direct management of licensed trade professionals

  • Experience with JIRA Service Manager, Smartsheet, Bluebeam and highly skilled in Microsoft Excel

  • Project Management Institute certification or equivalent

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $140K-165K. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications. The range is published in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
